Slow Food Boulder Team

Slow Food Boulder County is dedicated to promoting local, sustainable, and organic food. We believe in the importance of knowing where our food comes from and supporting local farmers and producers. Our community is at the heart of everything we do, and we strive to create a space where people can connect with the food they eat and the land it comes from. Join us in our mission to preserve traditional and regional cuisine, and to celebrate the pleasures of the table.

Leadership Team

Jodie Lindsay Popma Board member since 2017, chair since 2022

Jodie is a passionate advocate for sustainable food systems and community resilience. She leads Slow Food Boulder County, where she champions local food producers, manages the Snail of Approval program,  organizes chapter events and relationships. With a background in nutrition, Jodie combines her expertise with a deep commitment to supporting families in making healthier food choices. Lisa Balcom: Social Media Chair. Board member since 2023

As the owner and pastry chef at Farow at Home in Boulder County, Lisa embodies Slow Food values through her commitment to sustainable farming, nutrient-dense food, and scratch-made cooking. Her passion for improving our food system aligns perfectly with our mission. Lisa and her husband have dedicated time to learning about our food system and are committed to making positive change by supporting those who grow and raise food with care. She is eager to contribute her knowledge by hosting events, teaching classes, and assisting with marketing and fundraising efforts.

Outside of her volunteer work, Lisa’s life revolves around food — whether she’s cooking, preserving, visiting farms, exploring new cookbooks, or watching documentaries about the food system. She also enjoys making wire-wrapped gemstone jewelry (everything she wears is her own creation!) and dabbles in photography and videography.

When asked how we can improve the local food system in Boulder County, Lisa emphasizes the importance of awareness and education. She believes that helping people make the connection between farms and their forks creates opportunities for greater community support of Slow Food values. As for her favorite dish using Colorado-grown ingredients? Lisa loves making peperonata — a summer condiment made with a mix of peppers, tomatoes, garlic, and onions, cooked to perfection. She enjoys serving it on bread, charcuterie, grilled meat, or pasta, making it the perfect summer treat!  lisa@slowfoodboulder.org

Kelly Buenning - Treasurer, Board Member since December 2023

Kelly Buenning is originally from Missouri, but has moved throughout the US over the past two decades. In nearly every place she’s lived, she’s always tried to engage with the local food system through work or volunteering. She’s spent time working on farms, running farmers’ markets and teaching gardening programs to young children.

One advantage of her travels is that she was lucky enough to work with two incredible Slow Food chapters in both Wyoming and Kentucky. Since moving to Colorado she has been looking forward to learning more about her new home and the local food community, so she’s excited to become a part of Slow Food Boulder County. Kelly owns Fritz Family Brewers in Niwot with her husband, and spends her free time exploring her new home, gardening or chasing after her 2 small children.  kelly@slowfoodboulder.org

Kyle Wofford - Events Chair, Board Member since December 2024

Moving to Boulder in 1997 transformed Kyle's relationship with food, inspiring a lifelong commitment to healthier eating and connecting with others through food. Over the years, Kyle developed a deep appreciation for local food systems, making it a joy to give back to the farmers and producers who have enriched his life.

Outside of Slow Food, being a dad is Kyle’s greatest joy. He and his son spend time exploring the mountains, playing soccer, cooking together, and traveling — they’ve visited all 50 states, as of March 2025! Professionally, Kyle runs Hey Food, where he helps people heal their relationship with cooking and teaches parents and kids how to have fun with food.

When it comes to improving Boulder County’s food system, Kyle believes we can do more to share the stories of our local food producers. By sparking people’s imaginations and showing.    kyle@slowfoodboulder.org
